Nothing beats a classic patty melt, and this Ultimate Patty Melt with Secret Sauce takes things to the next level! With perfectly seasoned beef, melty Swiss cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and a rich, tangy sauce, this is a sandwich you'll want to make again and again.
Ingredients:
For the Patty Melt:
1 lb ground beef
8 slices of rye bread
8 slices of Swiss cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 tbsp butter, plus more for spreading
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Secret Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp relish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Set aside.
Caramelize the Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of butter. Add the thinly sliced onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and golden brown (about 10-15 minutes). Transfer to a plate.
Cook the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than your bread slices. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Using the same skillet, cook the patties over medium heat for about 4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Remove from heat and set aside.
Assemble the Patty Melts: Butter one side of each bread slice. On the non-buttered side of 4 slices, spread a generous amount of the secret sauce. Layer with a slice of Swiss cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, another slice of Swiss cheese, and finally, top with another slice of bread (buttered side facing out).
Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a clean skillet over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, ensuring the cheese is melted.
Serve and Enjoy! Slice in half and serve hot with your favorite sides. This patty melt pairs perfectly with crispy fries, a simple salad, or even a side of pickles.
Enjoy this indulgent, comforting classic with a homemade twist!
