Step 1: Set Your Monthly Intentions

Before you look at the numbers, look at your life. Use the Monthly Intentions section at the top of the template to list three non-negotiable goals.

Example: "Save $100 for summer travel" or "Stick to a $50 weekly grocery limit."

Step 2: Log Your Fixed Expenses

Fixed expenses are your "survival" costs—rent, utilities, and subscriptions.

Pro Tip: In Google Docs, you can use the Checklist feature (the icon in the top toolbar) next to each expense so you can physically check them off as they are paid from your bank account.

Step 3: Audit Your Variable Spending

This is where the "reset" happens. List categories like Dining Out, Shopping, or Hobbies. By using the alternating cream and white rows in this template, you can easily track your "Planned" vs. "Actual" spending without getting overwhelmed by the grid.

Step 4: The End-of-Month Reflection

At the bottom of the page, you'll find the Notes & Reflection card. At the end of the month, ask yourself:

  • Where did I feel most in control of my money?
  • What one spending habit do I want to leave in last month?
